Why Is It Important to Mask?

Masking is an important step in a complete skincare routine, and it only needs to be done once a week. How do you use a facial mask, and how do you know which facial mask to choose?  Think of masking as a weekly deep clean for your skin and an unclogging of your pores.  Sometimes our pores appear large and discolored because they’re actually packed full of dirt, oils, and impurities (gross!).  A once weekly mask can also help prep your skin in a way that allows the rest of your skincare products to work more effectively.  Once you start masking and seeing the results, you won’t want to skip this important self-care step. So, wash your face with your favorite cleanser, and get ready for a pampering facial treatment.

How Do You Use a Facial Mask?

Always start with a freshly cleansed face to remove all surface oils, dirt, and makeup. You want to start with clean skin before you mask to make sure you get all of the amazing benefits that your mask ingredients are designed to deliver.  Apply your mask onto damp skin which will all the ingredients to better absorb into your skin. Think of a kitchen sponge.  A damp sponge will collect and absorb all of the surface impurities and dirt much better than a dry sponge.

You can apply your facial mask with your fingertips, or a Silicone Mask Brush. Avoiding the eye area, apply a generous layer of product onto your skin, neck and decalage just like you’re frosting a cake and then wait 10-15 minutes.  Don’t stop the self-care experience during those 10-15 minute!  Take that opportunity to read, watch your favorite program, paint your nails, or take a relaxing bath!

When you’re ready to remove your facial mask, use plenty of water or a warm, damp wash cloth then pat dry with a towel.  Complete your skincare routine with your favorite moisturizer to rehydrate your soft, smooth, clean skin.

The Overnight Glow Facial Mask is a little different.  This mask does not contain clay and is meant to be kept on your skin overnight.  Apply a thin layer of product onto freshly cleansed, damp skin and allow this cooling gel to penetrate and treat skin overnight while you sleep.

How Do You Know Which Facial Mask to Choose?

Choosing the right mask can seem overwhelming.  Just like a pair of pants, your skincare products are not “one-size-fits-all”.  Think about your skin.  Is it dry or oily?  Normal or sensitive?  Do you have a lot of redness?  Do you have large pores?  Black heads, white heads, acne?  Make a list of the skincare issues you’d like to improve and match them up to one of Lemongrass Spa’s Facial Masks.
